About Nat3A

Our Mission

The National Alternative Analysis Association (Nat3A) is a broad-based and privately funded organization that endeavors to do research and disseminate information on the continuous viability of an American-led civilization with the use of alternative analysis.

Background

The multi- and inter-disciplinary academic discipline of alternative analysis (AA), also known as red teaming (RT), is the practice of viewing a problem and finding solutions by using an adversary or competitor’s perspective. Red teaming is a widely-accepted facet of the security and defense industries, and is specifically mentioned in the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (IRTPA)

Red teams try to answer one core question: How do we “destroy” the United States of America in order to ultimately protect, defend, and secure the nation and its people?

In recent years, a great number of professional organizations and government agencies have gone through red team exercises. Civilians as well as higher education institutions, however, have been sidelined because of the sensitivity of information from AA research. We are hoping to take away misconceptions about AA/RT, not just for the sake of research and education in strategic security but also to help drive the economy by promoting a new industry.

How NAT3A began

A group of students and faculty members of the Doctorate in Strategic Security Program at Henley-Putnam School of Strategic Security (formerly Henley-Putnam University), National American University,*  put their ideas together over the course of a semester and decided to be at the forefront of AA/RT research and practices. Simply put, no one was doing what the IRTPA 2004 mandated regarding AA/RT on a nation-wide scale, so NAT3A was formed to be the lead organization.

We are active and retired members of the military, law enforcers, intelligence community, academics, civilians, independent researchers, and Federal, state, and local government employees. We have also invited and continue to invite faculty and students from more than 3,000 colleges and universities all over the United States, including Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) members, researchers, and independent practitioners of AA/RT from all over the 50 states and Canada to be part of NAT3A.

Goals and objectives

Nat3Aaims to expand AA/RT knowledge by pursuing the following:

  • An independent study of the present and future security vulnerabilities of United States that may have been overlooked, ignored, or unimagined.

  • Simulation and modeling of the use of hitherto unimagined threats (HUTs) against the USA.

  • Educate, train, and develop current and future generations of defense, intelligence, emergency management, and homeland security personnel and scholars.

  • Disseminate information obtained from AA/RT research and exercises to relevant academic institutions and government agencies.

  • Use the information obtained from Red Team exercises to defend and secure the United States from present and future risks and threats.

Alternative Analysis Ethical Guidelines

Considering the sensitivity of the information from AA/RT, all practitioners, advocates, and members are expected to strictly adhere to the following:

  1. Never cause alarm, fear, or panic with the general public.

  2. Never disclose sensitive information unless it's necessary or required, and with the consent of your superior/administrator/adviser, or as mandated by law.

  3. Alternative analysis/red teaming is for research. It must never be used to attack the system, which we vow to protect, defend, and secure.

  4. Inform relevant organizations and government agencies of exercises so as not to cause alarm, fear, or panic.

Economic Significance of Alternative Analysis

The present and future contributions of AA/RT to the growth of the American economy are limitless. AA/RT practitioners and groups can create countless jobs for defense, intelligence, emergency management, and homeland security, just to cite a few examples.
